Grounds Improvement Projects at the Clair Nelson Center

We’ve had a lot going on at the Clair Nelson Center lately. The ballfield restoration project has continued with new sand in the infield and a massive fencing overhaul. Thanks to Dustin Huckell, Steven George, Demetrius Hill, and Silver Hill Land Improvement for volunteering to work on finishing this project before the softball season starts on June 16th. We’re also in the process of power-washing and staining the timberframe beams at the entrance of the building (thanks, Hunter Tikkanen) and refinishing the signs (thanks, Gary Olson). A special thanks to Finn Nikula for organizing and coordinating the entryway refinishing project. We’ve also been working to clear out dead trees and brush from the grounds (thanks, Elli and Rory). You may notice some new plants growing around the CNC site as well. We recently added 4 honeyberry plants, another blueberry plant, and several strawberry plants to the front of the building. The “edible landscape” at the front of the building has been very popular with community members, both young and old, and we want to honor that interest by expanding it and ensuring it’s well cared for. We have also been working to improve the orchard garden on the side of the building, improving the soil and adding useful perennial kitchen herbs and other vegetables that can be used for programs like Youth Night, etc. Soon we will be working on the river trail project, which will create access to the Baptism River from the CNC site. And there will be more to come!
