Sisu. Many have their own definition of the word. Often it is described as a unique form of resilience and inner strength.

But Sisu isn’t only about attitude — it’s about action.

Someone with sisu rolls up their sleeves: volunteering, sharing resources, and just helping make Finland and the surrounding area a better place for everyone. By modeling perseverance and generosity, they help strengthen the whole community. Over the last year we have had many people come to us saying they would like to find a way to thank someone in our community. This sparked conversations about recognition and our community. We can get caught up in the busy lives we live and don’t always stop to simply appreciate and thank someone for their time and efforts.

That’s why we have decided to hand out the 1st ever Sisu – Community Impact Recognition Award to Dan Cahill Matthews.

We hope to continue to recognize someone each year who has gone above and beyond for the community.
