We Want Your Feedback! Again. Still. Always.

Do you care about the future of this community? What kind of future do you envision? Are you interested in taking an active role in creating the future you want to see? What do you like about this area? What are some things that you would like to see happen here?

This may sound familiar. These are the kinds of questions Finland struggled with about 10 years ago when the community came together and created the Crystal Bay Comprehensive Community Plan. At that time, the Project to build the Clair Nelson Community Center was one of the biggest reasons to complete the Plan; it allowed the Town to apply for more grants in order to build the Center.

What’s next? Right now we’re at a point where it would be a good idea to revisit and revise the Comprehensive Plan with input from the public indicating what would be best for the community, the Township, Friends of the Finland Community, and the Clair Nelson Community Center.

Finland and this whole area has a lot going for it. In addition to our beautiful surroundings, we have a brand new community center, an extraordinary Fire Department and Rescue Squad, a 101-year-old Finland Co-op, an active Historical Society that has created a beautiful Finnish Heritage Site, Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center, businesses that support and enhance the community, active and engaged citizens, long-running and well-known community events like St Urho’s Day and the Booya Fest, soon to-be broadband internet, and a whole lot more.
All the same, there’s a whole lot more that could be done to enhance the community to make it a great place to live and work. In the original planning process, a lot of people were concerned about how to create jobs and keep young families in the area. Friends of the Finland Community recently received a grant from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation that will allow us to work as a community on that very issue. We’re kicking off this process with a Community Feedback Event at the Clair Nelson Center on January 9th at 6pm. Please help us out with this! Come give us your feedback and ideas for the future, and we’ll feed you dinner in return! We hope to hear from as many people as possible. All are welcome!
